Birthday Tepung

Ally turned twelve yesterday, and, again, today! In addition to recognizing and celebrating her American birthday, we recognized and celebrated her Indonesian birthday (Papua, Indonesia, is 18-hours ahead of Phoenix).

For the most part, the Indonesian culture is deeply rooted with convention, tradition, and mores, but it has its quirky side too. In some Indonesian communities, “flouring” the birthday boy/girl is common practice. He/she is doused with water (the dirtier the better) and then attacked with flour. Some people will even take it a step further and throw eggs at the birthday boy/girl.

Ally loves getting dirty, so she thoroughly enjoyed this celebratory practice!

    Very cute.

You apparently did not get my email regarding your gardener. Jorge did not do your yard Friday because he said he had not been paid for doing your yard in January. He said you owed him $100 for January and would not do your yard until he was paid. Can I help out in any way? Let me know.

I have finally accepted an offer on our home and, if everything pans out, will be out of the neighborhood by March 14.

    My regards to your family,

    Dear Kriste and Family:

Alley sure didn’t look dirty as dirt applies. Her photo was that of a typical playing child and the mess was clean dirt. Dirty dirt is when you work in your back yard and gets messied up.

Our local weather station on T.V. advertises Scottsdale,Arizona every day. The temperature there this afternoon was 28 degrees. Makes Mother and I sick that we cannot visit this Winter. Maybe next Winter we can visit Scottsdale.

The weather is Lethbridge is slowly getting warmer. Right now, it is 7 degrees and the weather over the next few days will be in the neigbourhood of 7 or 8 degrees. It is about time as I have never felt a winter before that I felt this winter, In the past years, warm winds would melt snow and ice before they formed.

Mom and I are finding it difficult to contact Ally and wish her a Happy Birthday. Maybe it is time to do it right now. Happy Birthday Ally and many, many more birthdays. Just can’t wait to see you and your family at home again. We so much enjoyed our visits to Arizona.

But, jobs are jobs where ever they are located. I remember when I was employed with the Bank of Nova Scotia. Three months after Mom and I were married, I was transferred to Calgary, Alberta. Shile in Calgary, our four children were born into our family. At the end of our Calgary living, the Bank wanted me and my family to go to Toronto. I said No, our family are just too young to move. Indian and Northern Affairs got to me before the Bank tried and Indian and
Indian Affairs agreed to move us back to Lethbridge and I would work the two close to Lethbsridge Reserves as an Economic Development Officer.

It was so wonderful returning to Lethbridge and not having to go to Toronto.

Mother and I love you and your family so much. Mother and I miss you and your family so much.

    Love you all.
